New Year, New You – did you know we get to CHOOSE what to put in our next chapter?!

Motivate Monday series

We have merely days left in this DECADE. For real.

We’ve written love letters to ourselves, we’ve made amends with our past, and we embraced our achievements to date.

Now what? How else can we prepare for the fresh start that awaits us in 48 hours?

By knowing that our stories, the chapter we are in right now, isn’t permanent.

We can change our stories, we can change our paths at any point.

Because WE are the CREATORS of our own stories, friends.

This TED talk is long, but it is so absolutely perfect for this moment. I hope you are able to listen to the entire thing!

I loved this video because it made me more aware of others’ perceptions – my view is, in fact, but a tiny sliver of what actually happened.

It’s also so incredibly empowering to know that MY story – the one I am living right now – isn’t fixed. It’s fluid, and I have the power to change the direction and course whenever I choose.

Sometimes we feel more comfortable embracing our cage than the freedom on the other side. Familiarity, however unhealthy, can be comforting. Take a step back to get a better view for your edits.

This is the first new year that I have intentionally embraced, and I am so excited. The older I get, the more I sink deeper into myself and fall more and more in love with me.

In my twenties, I served my children and identified as a mother. My family was young, I was a single parent for most of those years. But as I get older and have settled into my thirties, I am starting to serve myself more and find my own identity.

It’s important to love yourself, friends. It’s important to know that our own stories may have to include others but it should NEVER revolve around them. Make sure you surround yourself with people who support your dreams, not squash them.

On this cusp of a new beginning, I challenge each of you to take a step back and look at your own story.

Appreciate the struggles and challenges and successes that have brought you to this point in your story, right before your next blank page.

Do you feel that excitement, the energy that something exciting is about to happen?

That’s all you, friend. You have SO MUCH potential. Embrace it. Embrace yourself, and do something for you this year. After all, you are the main character here. You are the most important character in this story.

What are you going to do on the next page?
