Embrace The Suck.

Motivate Monday #12

It’s Sunday night.

I usually sit down and write our Motivate Monday post, if I haven’t finished it earlier in the week.

Instead, I’ve been disinfecting the house, buying stock in Gatorade, and cycling laundry through the washer.

Guys. The Snods have the stomach flu. And all of the kids are here this week.

Pray for us.

Mike said when he was in the military, they had a phrase for all the physically and emotionally exhausting things they had to get through. Embrace the suck. It’s military slang meaning “to consciously accept or appreciate something that is extremely unpleasant but unavoidable (definition from wictionary.org)”.

Have I mentioned we have NINE humans that reside in our home? That doesn’t include all of the other friends and neighbors and kids that cycle through.

So when the stomach flu hits our house, it SUCKS. This is supposed to be our Motivate Monday post… And honestly, I’ve got little motivation to share right now, because we are 💯 embracing the suck around here right now.

This weekend, our version of winning is trying to disinfect the house faster than germs can spread, and keeping on top of the laundry. Bare minimum standards are happening here, and that’s alright. We adjusted plans to accommodate the suck, and we’re still winning. Because that’s where our mindset is.

Life isn’t always pretty. I know a lot of our readers enjoy how “real” our posts are, so that’s where we’re going to be today. Real. Authentic. This is our life. You can take it or leave it 💁🏼‍♀️ (although right now, I totally want to leave it. I haaaaate cleaning up 🤮).

When you have big goals and big dreams, the roads aren’t always smooth. You can’t just coast downhill with little effort and achieve your version of the best life ever. It requires blood, sweat, tears, doubt, fear, failure. You just have to be willing to pick yourself up. Over and over again. That’s where success lies. Your success needs to be bigger than your failures. THAT’S how you win.

How do you handle your suck? How do you tackle adversity? I hope you accept the challenges, and you find new and creative ways to overcome them.

Appreciate the tough times that force you to grow. Embrace difficulty, because that’s what will make you smarter and stronger.

How you choose to handle your personal struggles, your challenges, is what matters. My story isn’t as hard as others, and yours may not be as hard as mine, but we all get to CHOOSE how to handle them. Will you let your challenges take you down, or will you overcome them?

How to embrace the suck.

  • Acknowledge that this moment, well, sucks right now. Sit in the shitty moment, and then figure out your way through it.
  • Know that this struggle is temporary. Remind yourself that nothing lasts for ever, and soon you will be past this.
  • Remind yourself of the things you are grateful for to keep up your mental resiliency.
  • Look for the positive in the situation. Think of the new tools or information you’ve acquired. Every situation is an opportunity for improvement if you choose to see it that way.

Embrace the suck, because your wins will be so much more satisfying when you can look back and see how far you’ve come.
