From our Motivate Monday series
SEVEN!! We have been doing Motivate Monday for SEVEN WEEKS, guys! How crazy is that?!?! Thank you so much for joining me on this journey ❤️
Today, we’re going to talk about not only finding your tribe, but maintaining your tribe.
Mike is my person. I can vent to him, I can lean on him, I can ask him for ANYTHING, and he will make it happen. And, I hope he knows I’m there to do the same for him (except when he has a man cold because the nurse in me can’t handle that).
Outside of that, I have like four friends. And I’m totally okay with that, because I don’t have the time to maintain more friendships than those. Hell, half of the time I suck at maintaining those! I am in a BUSY season right now. But you know what? My tribe knows that, and they understand. They’re the best 🥰
What does it mean to have a ‘tribe’? Tribe is really just a fancy new way of saying friend. Urban Dictionary (my favorite) says:

Making friends as an adult is hard. How do you even do it?
I met one of my girlfriends nearly fifteen years ago in the diaper isle at Wal Mart. We were both sleep deprived pushing carts full of small children, and literally ran into each other.
I hear there are apps out there like Tinder but for moms (which sounds TOTALLY AMAZING). Join a local parents group. It is SO NICE to have people you can talk to who are going through similar stages of parenting.
You can always fall back on letting your kids pick out some peeps to chill with (after careful screening by you, of course). If your kiddo found a friend on the playground, hit up the parent and start a conversation. Finding mom friends (or dad friends) is kind of like dating. Someone has to make the first move! 💁🏼♀️

I can’t count how many times I have had to rely on friends for help with my kids and we shouldn’t feel bad about asking when we ourselves are breaking. Parents are 100% superheroes, but that doesn’t mean we need to do all. the. things by ourselves! Ask for help when you need it. And more importantly, offer it when your tribe needs an extra hand.
One of my girlfriends and I both stepped up and helped each other when our husbands were out of town awhile ago. We each picked two nights where we could cook for both families, and dropped off food. It was AMAZING. I’ve had friends come over and we’ve meal prepped together.
Make friends with the parents on your kids’ sports teams and activities, and set up car pools. It’s like Kid Uber but with 0% risk of abduction.
Our tribe should support us, love us, and lift us up. Positivity breeds more positivity. They didn’t invent the golden rule (do unto others as you would have them to unto you) for nothing! And it sure as heck didn’t expire after we graduated elementary school. Be the friend you would want to have.
I hope this message inspired you to check in with your tribe, or create one! Get out there and start some connections. We all thrive in healthy relationships. Show up for others so they will in turn show up for you.
Most importantly, take a breath. Enjoy these moments. I know this season is busy, but before we know it, it will be over. Don’t be so hung up on doing “all the things” that you miss it. Invest in the important things. Invest in your kids, invest in your spouse, and invest in your friendships. These are the things that matter ❤️

Today, I am grateful for my tribe. I am grateful for the people in my life that show up and support me, and I hope that I am their person also.
