Positive Thoughts Only

Mike and I wrote our own vows when we eloped. Mine were silly, and his were heart-filled, which is a fairly accurate depiction of who we are at our cores.

Mike promised me in our vows that we would make our little corner of the world a better place. I don’t know if he knows how seriously I take that commitment! It has become my mantra, my purpose. What can I do today to make it better than yesterday? What can I do to improve the things and people I touch?

I don’t mean to paint an unrealistic picture of my life with this blog. My intention is not to be all flashy and “this is how amazing we are”. Mike and I have had DAYS with ugly looks and not a single word shared between the two of us. We’ve threatened to take our kids and leave – one of the many, many, many struggles of combined families and I know without a doubt we are not the only ones working through this immense difficulty. The house is messy more times than it isn’t. I could tell you stories, friends.

But I’m not going to, because I choose to not focus on the very fleeting, very temporarily difficult times. Don’t get me wrong, I acknowledge the difficulty. I look at ways not to repeat my same mistakes or address the fact the I have offended someone in some way and then do my part to fix the problem. And then I move on.

I was listening to some TED talks this morning while getting ready and one of them said “if the world is going to keep shoving you down and holding you back, why on earth would you kick your own self in the balls also?” Now, I don’t have balls, but I understand the reference. If you’re having a bad day, WHY DWELL IN THAT HOLE FOR ONE MORE MINUTE?! Life is too short, friends, and we have too little time to spare marinating in the things that drag us down. Let. It. Go! CHOOSE to do better. CHOOSE to shake those things off and move on to greener pastures.

I try and throw so much positivity out there, and hopefully a tiny little bit will circle back around. And even if it doesn’t, I am content knowing I did the best I could. That’s what feeds my happiness. That’s what feeds my joy. If I spend hours and hours filling my head with #positivity and #encouragement and #joy then there is nothing else that can come out of my mouth other than positivity and joy and encouragement. Do you see how that works?

Do your part to make the area around you a better place today. Spread positivity. Make someone smile. Most importantly, do some self-care so that your cup is OVERFLOWING and fill someone else’s cup with the excess. I’m not talking about pedicures and bath bombs; I’m talking about going to bed early and fueling your body with healthy food. Take care of yourself so that you can help take care of the people who need you. Your kids. Your spouse. Show up today! Everyone wins!

Today, I am grateful for being put on call so I can chill with the kids on their day off from school! I’m grateful that even though Mike and I both worked 10-12 hours yesterday, we made a plan and scheduled to take the boys bowling and had some good quality family time!

  1. Love this! You are so truthful. <3 there are always days, there will always be days. All we can do is find the good, then move on to the next!
