The perks of having a massive sized family is you HAVE to be organized to stay afloat! And those organizational skills will carry over into other areas of your life, which is super awesome (and great skills for your kids to pick up).
My girlfriend recently combined homes with her significant other, and they now have 3-6 kids around at any given time. Her biggest question for me was “How do you feed everyone?!”
Meal prep, friend. Meal prep.
It takes a little bit of time at first, but once you make your menu and corresponding grocery list it becomes SO EASY. And that is the best part about becoming organized, right? Things get easier when you have a plan and a routine!
I try and go grocery shopping once a week, or every two weeks depending on our schedules. I’ll pick a menu, print my grocery list, and cross off the things that I have at home.
I spend one day prepping everything – I’ll throw together a meatloaf, lasagna and spaghetti sauce, BBQ some chicken breasts and steak. I make a large batch of muffins, and a couple breakfast casseroles and burritos. I’ll cook rice and roast some carrots or sweet potatoes. Boom, SEVERAL meals are done! The kids can grab what they want if they would like to take lunch to school, Mike and I have meals for work, and dinner is done which is PERFECT for busy weeks when they are all in sports.
Here is a sample menu and grocery list. I encourage you to personalize this to your family’s preference, and enjoy the benefits of meal prepping 🙂
